A flagship product for Double Horse, the ‘9053’ in the Volitation RC helicopter series has been a worldwide success. Commonly named as the best beginner’s toy on the market for years after it was released, it has since been overtaken by more recent models in its series (not least the 9118), but it remains an excellent heli in its own right. With a few different versions available, for example the Volitation X or the 2 Speed version, it’s worth looking out for bargains on the later production runs to truly get the most for your money from this pleasing hobby toy.

Underneath its large, sleek and glossy façade, the 9053 is powered by two 180 main motors and an N20 tail motor, the three of which provide a distinctive powerful thrust that, according to some customer reviews, can propel the craft over 300 feet up into the sky. While these reported figures may be somewhat exaggerated, with the official control range listed as only 30 metres this is undoubtedly an area in which the 9053 under-promises and over-delivers.
